2005 - ABSLTA Workshops Archives
June 2005 Workshop, Nottingham
ABSLT held two workshops on the Saturday and Sunday of the AGM – held at
Nottingham Deaf Club on the weekend of 18/19 June.
Val Pigg of the CACDP was due to give a talk on “The Living History of BSL” on
the Saturday afternoon but was taken ill at the last minute.
Her place was taken by Jacqueline Swinbourne, who is also on the CACDP staff.
Luckily Jacqueline has done this presentation before so was able to give a very
interesting talk about how BSL started and factors that contributed to its
development over the years.
Jacqueline followed this talk with a presentation outlining the changes that
have been made to the BSL Level 2 curriculum and examination – important
information to tutors teaching at this level.
Sunday morning and afternoon was given to workshops on materials, and ideas for
materials, suitable for teaching BSL at levels 1 and 2.
The workshops were led by ABSLT committee members but the participants also
enjoyed contributing their own ideas and an interesting and enjoyable learning
experience was had by all.
Some comments from participants on the Sunday Teaching Materials Workshop:-
