Workshops Summary - Report by Charles Heard
In the early part of 2007 we had many comments from our members that, although
they had attended the appropriate CACDP training, they were still not clear
about the specifications and assessment procedures for the CACDP BSL Level 1
qualification.
The ABSLTA committee therefore agreed it was necessary to hold a series of
workshops at venues all over the UK, to make sure that OUR members at least were
doing their jobs properly and candidates were not failing due to mistakes made
by the tutor.
The areas where we hoped to hold these workshops were, Kent [for tutors in the
South East] Bristol [South West] Luton, Birmingham, Chester, Yorkshire, Glasgow
and Belfast.
So far we have had four workshops have been held at York, Luton, Bromley and
Birmingham, next one will be at Reading Deaf Club on Saturday, 8th December. A poster about the
Reading workshop can be seen [... can you put "see poster below or on next
page or something"]
The four workshops already held were well attended and very successful, with
participants remarking how much clearer and confident they were after the
presentations and ‘hands on’ practise. Some of their comments can be seen on
each workshop pages, please click here to go to 2008 page to
view workshops & comments
These workshops are open to ALL tutors – whether they are members of ABSLTA or
not – and the committee hope that ALL tutors will feel it is their duty to
attend one of them to improve their knowledge and skills.
