Yesterday I attended Robert Adam’s wonderful lecture about BSL linguistics. Topics covered included Types of signs, Sign language phonology, Sign language morphology, Mouth patterns, Sentence structure and Classifiers. Robert set us some icebreaker tasks which helped us all to settle in. He was very professional and a natural born teacher and gave us BSL teachers plenty of opportunity to feedback with our own experiences.

I joined ABSLTA seven years ago and I haven’t missed a year because it really helps me to build my understanding and confidence in my BSL teaching and assessment methods. At just £15 to join ABSLT as a member, plus only £5 to join the ABSLT workshops it is great value for money. It would cost a lot more than that to attend an Linguistics course elsewhere – and it gives you a certificate that counts towards your Continuing Personal or Professional Development (CPD).

Many thanks to Charles Herd, Robert Adam and the committee for their commitment and passion to ABSLTA. I would strongly recommend any BSL teachers or assessor – whether you are new or experienced – to join ABSLTA.
